Eligibility, how to apply, documents, reservation, fees and scholarships.
How to get admitted
- Check the admission notice. The department publishes an admission notification with the application window, merit list dates and counselling schedule. It is posted on our notice board and on the state portal.
- Register online. Create an account on the West Bengal centralised ITI admission portal with a working mobile number and email address. Keep both accessible — all communication goes there.
- Fill the application form. Enter your Madhyamik (Class X) details exactly as printed on the marksheet. A mismatch is the most common reason applications are rejected at verification.
- Upload documents and photograph. Scanned copies in the sizes and formats the portal specifies.
- Choose your trades and institutes in order of preference. List Basanti Government ITI and your preferred trade in the correct order — allotment follows your stated preference and your merit position.
- Pay the application fee (where applicable) and submit. Save the PDF and note the application number.
- Watch for the merit list and allotment. Merit is normally drawn on Class X marks, subject to the rules in force for the session.
- Report for counselling and document verification at the institute on the notified date with all original documents and one set of self-attested photocopies.
- Pay the admission fee and complete admission within the notified window. Admission lapses if the deadline is missed.

Eligibility

Documents required at verification
- Madhyamik / Class X admit card (age proof)
- Madhyamik / Class X marksheet and certificate
- School leaving / transfer certificate
- Recent passport-size photographs (as specified)
- Aadhaar or other prescribed identity proof
- Caste certificate (SC / ST / OBC-A / OBC-B) where claimed
- PwD certificate where claimed
- Income certificate where required for fee concession or scholarship
- Domicile / residence certificate if required
- Bank passbook copy (for scholarship credit)
Bring originals for verification and one set of self-attested photocopies to be retained by the institute.
Reservation
Seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (Category A and B), persons with disabilities and other categories in the proportion notified by the Government of West Bengal for the session. Reservation is applied by the centralised admission system on the basis of the certificates uploaded and verified — no separate application is needed at the institute.
Fees
[VERIFY] The fee structure for a Government ITI is fixed by the department and is nominal. The exact admission fee, tuition fee, examination fee and any refundable caution deposit for the current session must be published here from the official fee notification. Do not pay any amount to any individual — all payments are made through the prescribed channel and a receipt is issued.
Scholarships and financial assistance
- Post-matric scholarships for SC, ST and OBC trainees through the state scholarship portal.
- National Scholarship Portal (NSP) schemes, including minority scholarships.
- Merit-cum-means and departmental schemes as notified from time to time.
- Stipend during apprenticeship, paid as per the Apprentices Act rates.
The institute office assists trainees with online scholarship applications. Keep your bank account Aadhaar-seeded to avoid payment failures.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply directly at the institute?
No. Admission to CTS trades is made through the state's centralised online admission portal. The institute conducts document verification and admission only for candidates allotted through that process.
I passed Class X without Mathematics or Science. Which trades can I take?
One-year trades such as COPA, Welder and Dress Making require a Class X pass without the Science and Mathematics condition. Two-year engineering trades require Science and Mathematics as passed subjects.
Is there an entrance examination?
No written entrance test is held for CTS admission. Selection is on merit computed from Class X marks, subject to the rules notified for the session.
Are girls admitted to all trades?
Yes. Every trade at this institute is open to women candidates, and the institute encourages applications from girls, particularly for COPA, Dress Making, Electronics Mechanic and Surveyor.
What if I miss the counselling date?
A candidate who does not report on the notified date normally forfeits the allotted seat. Watch the portal for any subsequent round or mop-up counselling announced by the department.
Does the institute provide a hostel?

Is a job guaranteed after the course?
No institute can guarantee a job, and you should be sceptical of anyone who does. What the institute provides is a nationally recognised certificate, genuine practical training, apprenticeship registration support and access to campus recruitment drives.
