What you will learn
- Domestic, industrial and underground wiring as per IE rules and the National Electrical Code
- Winding, testing and maintenance of DC machines, transformers, single- and three-phase motors
- Switchgear, protection, earthing, distribution boards and cable jointing
- Basic electronics, PLC fundamentals, inverters, UPS and solar photovoltaic systems
- Measuring instruments, energy metering, fault finding and safety practice
Where it leads
- Wireman / Electrician in manufacturing plants, hospitals, hotels and housing projects
- Technician with WBSEDCL, Indian Railways, PWD and other government establishments (through relevant recruitment)
- Maintenance technician in solar EPC and electrical contracting firms
- Apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, 1961, leading to regular employment
- Self-employment as a licensed electrical contractor after obtaining a state licence
Course structure
The syllabus for this trade is notified by the Directorate General of Training and is common across all NCVT-affiliated ITIs in India. Contact hours are divided between:

| On-the-job training / project | Industry exposure and a trade project as prescribed in the current syllabus. |
