What you will learn

  • Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) in all standard positions
  • Gas welding, gas cutting and brazing
  • MIG/MAG and TIG welding processes
  • Welding symbols, joint preparation, distortion control and weld defects
  • Visual inspection, basic NDT awareness and workshop safety

Where it leads

  • Welder in fabrication, structural, shipbuilding and pipeline work
  • Technician posts in railways, ports, PSUs and heavy engineering units
  • Site welder on construction and infrastructure projects, including overseas placement
  • Apprenticeship in fabrication and manufacturing units
  • Self-employment through a fabrication workshop
